Wading River Wharton State Forest June 6th to 8th, 2008
Update 5/22: Here's a document with some easy backpacking meals.
Update 5/13: Participants must fill out a waiver to participate. Waivers are due at the May 19th meeting to Mr. Zamorski. Click on the appropriate waiver to download: Update 5/11: There will be one last final swim test on June 1st at the Willows – depending if we can get the pool- shouldn’t be a problem. If so it will be on Sunday the 1st at 5:00 pm. You must be swim certified to attend this trip – adults included. Final sign up, permission slip, $40 per person fee, and waivers are due to Mr. Zamorski by the troop meeting on May 19th. The fee for this trip is $40.00 per person – which will include the campsite fees, canoe rental, and the gas surcharge. Please make a check payable to Troop 90 and submit by the May 19th meeting. All drivers will be compensated for gas. If you don’t pass the swim test your check will be refunded.
We will be leaving at 5:00 pm sharp on June 6th. We have 31 scouts and 13 adults signed up. Adults – let me know how many scouts you can drive including your son/sons. We are also going to be short on tents for the adults - so if any adults have a tent – bring one for yourself and let me know. Previous Info: We have made this years training plan the June Canoe Trip (June 6-8, 2008) and it is coming up fast. We will be camping and canoeing in Wharton State Forest along the Wading River in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. We will need to arrive Friday before dark because our first campsite is 4 miles into the woods and very hard to navigate in the dark by vehicle. I suggest that we leave as early as possible – no later than 5:00 PM. This trip will require backpacking skills. You will need to pack your gear in waterproof bags and plan your meals to be light and easy to cook. For this trip you will cook with your canoe buddy – not by patrol, so pick a buddy and plan your meals accordingly. Everything you need for the weekend needs to be packed between you and your partner- tent, stove, food, sleeping bag, pad, and personal gear. There will be no vehicles at the campsites hauling your gear – it’s all up to you and your canoe. If you need help with your planning, talk to one of the troop instructors for guidance.
